Students who take part in the Virginia Student Training and Refurbishment Program (VA STAR) at Belmont Elementary School hosted a Bridging the Gap event, where the students provided families in need with a computer that they refurbished. Students who participate in the VA STAR program learn about the inner workings of computers including hardware, software, and cyber security.

At Belmont Elementary’s Bridging the Gap event, the VA STAR students served dinner to the 20 families receiving the refurbished computers. Once the computers were distributed, the families were trained how to use them.

In speaking about the VA STAR program and the Bridging the Gap event at Belmont, Theta Krehbiel, instructional technology coach, said , “In today’s world of education, access to technology is essential for success. Being able to run the VA Star program at Belmont has had an amazing impact on the community by being able to put technology in the hands of the students who need it the most. “
