On Sept. 24, the new and improved Brighter Futures 5K presented by PWAR returned and took its mark. On a cool and cloudy Saturday morning, runners and walkers of all skill levels came together in support of the Boys and Girls Club and Keep Prince William Beautiful. The aim of this countywide collection was to raise money to donate to both beneficiaries that care immensely about serving the public, educating young minds, and inspiring individuals to be passionate about their community.
With the support of sponsors and over 45 participants, PWAR raised $1,000 for both charities. Congratulations were instantly in order for the overall winner Fabio Clavijo. Second place in his age range came Tariq Moorehead who said positive things about this event: “Running the Brighter Futures 5k 2022 helped me to feel more connected to the community that I have been living in for 10 years. Everyone was in high spirits and excited to run for a great cause! Knowing that the proceeds go to KPWB and the Boys and Girls Club gave us the extra boost we needed to finish strong!” This day was a great example of a community coming together, with there being a major source of volunteer assistance from Woodbridge Senior High School AP honor students.
Plans are already being put in place to make sure that next year’s 5K is even better. Next year’s race will take place on Sept. 23, 2023. PWAR plans to make sure that the race remains an annual event that supports influential charities both local and national.
