Victoria Wu of Cakes By Happy Eatery loves Tiramisu as much as any dessert she serves (and eats), so sharing seasonal secrets about this most eclectic of treats seemed like the best way to congratulate Fox 5 DC host Marissa Mitchell on the launch of her new show.

“Tiramsu is a versatile, year-round dessert,” Wu says.  “Its light, rich and creamy texture makes it quite indulgent, and that makes it a staple for holiday and winter gatherings and into the spring, too.”

Wu walked Marissa Mitchell through the bakery’s signature Tiramisu Dessert station idea for parties and group gatherings.

“Doing a table like this really sets the tone for any celebration,” says Wu.  “It provides the combination of being delicious and memorable.  The presentation can be equal parts fun and unique.”

Tiramisu is a classic Italian dessert with versatile flavor combinations and is also a sweet way to salute the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics and other happenings this season. Wu says last week she did a classic Seattle “strong brew” for a party of expat Seahawk fans, and a Boston Cream version for Patriot lovers.  Fat Tuesday is Feb. 17, and she recommends Café du Monde with Chocolate Doberge.  For Lunar New Year it was a Red Bean Milk Tea Tiramisu.

In the interactive portion of the interview, Wu helped Mitchell create a special treatment for February 14th: a Valentine Chocolate Pistachio Tiramisu!  Here are the key steps:

Create the Valentine Chocolate Pistachio Tiramisu

  • Build layer starting from the bottom
  • Dust cocoa onto the bottom of the bowl
  • Dip ladyfinger in espresso for 3 to 4 seconds and layer into bowl
  • Layer 1/3 kataifi-pistachio filling then 2/3 mascarpone blend
  • Repeat with a second layer of the dipped espresso ladyfinger
  • Repeat with a second topping of the kataifi-pistachio filling and 2/3 mascarpone blend
  • Cover the bowl and refrigerate for 6+/- hours to let the ladyfingers soak and tiramisu set
  • Before serving, liberally dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder
  • Top with chopped pistachios and optional, dried rose petals for an added layer of luxury and visual appeal
