Provided by Volunteer Prince William

Greetings, Prince William!  What a week it has been with the snow and ice! Volunteer Prince William is still recruiting Volunteer Snow Shovelers to assist senior citizens and adults with disabilities by clearing sidewalks and driveways after snowstorms.

Who can volunteer?

  • Volunteers 16 and older are welcome
  • Volunteers under 16 may participate with a parent

Who Receives This Service:

  • Senior citizens with critical medical needs such as dialysis or cancer treatment appointments
  • Senior citizens receiving in-home care such as hospice or visiting caregivers
  • Senior citizens who are disabled and unable to shovel snow
  • Adult residents under 65 who are disabled
  • All other senior citizens who are physically unable to shovel their walk/driveway

What to expect:

  • Volunteers will be on call through March 31st
  • Shoveling typically takes place 1–3 days after a snowstorm
  • Volunteers must provide their own snow shovel.

You’ll help vulnerable residents safely access critical medical appointments, home healthcare, and enter or exit their homes.

Adoption Events at Lucky Dog Animal Rescue

The fun staff at Lucky Dog Animal Rescue has adoption events planned for February and they’re looking for volunteers to help! What could be better than spending a day with all the dogs and cats and helping them find new homes?! Dates with openings are Feb. 8 in Rockville Feb. 15 in Falls Church. Drivers age 18+ are also needed to transport dogs and cats from local shelters to adoption events on weekends! All upcoming Lucky Dog volunteer opportunities can be seen here. Volunteers must be at least 7 years old to volunteer and anyone under the age of 18 must always have a parent present (parent must physically hold the dog’s leash). Please note that you MUST have one adult in attendance for each child.

Are you a Volunteer Coordinator at a local nonprofit?

Volunteer Prince William wants to hear from you, too! They’re restarting their Volunteer Coordinator Meetings and would love your input on the topics that matter most to you. Your ideas will help us make these meetings relevant, engaging, and valuable. They want to be sure they have your most up-to-date contact information so they can keep you informed about upcoming meetings and opportunities to connect. Please email info@volunteerpw.org with topics you’d like to see discussed at future meetings and your current contact information.

Do you need volunteers or have an upcoming community event? Don’t forget you can post your volunteer needs and upcoming community events on Volunteer Prince William’s website for free! Posting on their website allows your events to be added to their weekly posts and is a great way to spread the word and connect with new volunteers in the community!
