Last weekend Volunteer Prince Willliam held their Community-Wide Volunteer Recognition Event & Picnic. While it was humid, the event was great and they enjoyed connecting with volunteers who generously give their time and make the programs and non-profits possible. Supervisor Victor Angry was the guest speaker, and it was very uplifting to hear about his history with volunteerism. Volunteer Prince William hopes attendees enjoyed the picnic and the volunteers enjoyed their goodie bags made possible by community partners.
Do you have an upcoming event or volunteer needs? VPW’s website provides the ability to post for your organization for free. These posts are seen by over 14,000 volunteers who are actively looking for volunteer opportunities. To get signed up, create your free personal account on volunteerpw.org. Once you have your account, you can then create your organization. The organizations do require approval and are typically completed within one business day. Once approved, you can post any volunteer needs or community events you may have. Adult Field Day
While most of us don’t miss school, a lot of us do miss the most fun time at the end of school: field day! How about joining in an adult field day either as a volunteer or participant! Rich Fitness and Gains, LLC is looking for volunteers for Fitnik on June 13, with registration required by May 30, 2026. Fitnik is a nostalgic, fun-filled day of games, challenges, and fitness activities – a field day for adults! Do you want to help We Are Artistic create a wonderful experience for moms?
They are in need of volunteers on June 13 from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. for Artful Afternoon: Mommy and Minis. There are several volunteer needs such as outreach, relaxation station volunteers, photography, and activity assistants. Learn more about the opportunities or sign up here: tinyurl.com/2mt4ckx6
They also have several other amazing (and fun) volunteer opportunities, including a virtual internship for young filmmakers. This program is nine weeks; students will meet for an hour once to twice a week to learn about each step of the process of filmmaking. During this time participants will choose a topic affecting their local community that they are passionate about. Together the participants will create a PSA short film about their topic and how their community can improve. This program will help young students expand their portfolio as well as learn communication skills, filmmaking techniques, and collaboration. Students may earn up to 20 hours of community service. Leopold’s Preserve
Beginning next week, Leopold’s Preserve will have a family-friendly fun field-based volunteer role for people who want to be outdoors while helping survey an old grown forest. You’ll hike with the Land Stewardship Field Technician and other volunteers, learn simple filed methods, and record observations of trees, understory saplings, and seedlings using datasheets or a mobile device. Volunteers under 18 are welcome to participate with an adult. The volunteer opportunity runs from May 26 through June 11 with timeslots from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m. Ten slots are available per date. Volunteer as an ESOL Teacher this Summer!
BEACON is currently recruiting volunteers to teach in their online summer conversation classes from July 6 to 23. They are looking for passionate individuals to help adult ESOL students build confidence and strengthen their English conversation skills. No teaching experience or additional language skills are required — all training and materials are provided. This is a meaningful opportunity to connect with others, inspire learners, and help students achieve their goals while gaining valuable experience and new friendships. Looking for something to do this summer while school is on summer break?
The Prince William County Department of Parks and Recreation is looking for Ben Lomond Historic Site Junior Preservationists. The volunteer opportunity is available from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on most days. Junior Preservationists will work with the historic preservation staff and other volunteers and will learn about how historic sites are run, how artifacts are cared for, and possibly tackle a special project suitable to the volunteer’s age. Smart Grown Protects Rural Communities
Prince William Conservation Alliance will have a free. Zoom event titled Smart Grown Protects Rural Communities on May 28 from 7 until 9 pm. This event will be a virtual conversation exploring how smart growth, walkable communities, and better regional planning can help protect rural landscapes and reduce pressure for sprawl development. St. Thomas United Methodist Church Food Pantry
St. Thomas UMC Food Pantry has several volunteer opportunities. Some of them include youth volunteers if you’re looking for an opportunity once school is out. The Food Pantry opened its doors on March 17, 2007, and has been in continuous operation since then. They are members of the Capital Area Food Bank and also pick up food six days a week from local grocery stores. Volunteer needs such as interpreters, weekday receiving/sorting, food packers, food pickup, and Saturday food distribution are all available.
