Volunteer Prince William serves as a clearinghouse for local volunteer opportunities and issues a call to action every week:

Events

The PWC Panthers Track Club needs volunteers on Saturday, May 25 for their annual track meet at Colgan High School. They are expecting 65 teams with 25-60 members on each team, so lots of logistic help is needed. The event starts early in the morning and goes all day. Please call Aisha Hatcher for all the specifics at (703) 944-6998. This is a great opportunity for teens!

Novant Health Auxiliary is having their Spring Fling Event on Saturday, May 18, 7:00 a. m.-1:30 p. m. at the Manassas location. There’s a huge rummage sale, the Pet Assistance Leaguewill have an adoption fair and goodies for sale for your pets, Bull Run Library will have library cards and cool grab bags and Volunteer Prince William will have lots of volunteer opportunities to see.

The Sweet Julia Grace Foundation needs volunteers for their Field Day at the FarmBrewery on Saturday, May 18. Come help with check-in, assist with games or clean-up. Volunteers 10 and older are welcome with an adult or age 14+ without! Please visit their website for more info. Volunteers over age 21 are needed for the Beer Garden at the Tough Mudder Competition on June 1-2. Please email Sara for more info.

The Tough Mudder is coming to Silver Lake in Haymarket on June 1-2. This team- oriented 8-10 mile obstacle course will have thousands of participants. K9s Serving Vets needs volunteers for two upcoming events to assist with planning. The Annual Service Dog Salute 2 Veterans event with raffle and silent auction in August at the Bungalow Alehouse and a 1950s benefit event in October. The following committees need volunteers- sponsorships, venue/catering, auction, promotions, printing, ticket sales, volunteers and education. Please email Kira or Jen to learn more.

The American Heart Association needs volunteers at the next race on Saturday, June 8, sponsored by Lawyers have Heart at The Washington Harbour in Georgetown. Tasks include start /finish line assistance, registration, water stops and post-race party. Please visit their website to learn more.

Outdoor Projects

Habitat for Humanity has a new project starting in Woodbridge May 16-18. Tasks include roof, HVAC system, exterior trim and painting. Please visit their website to read about Argenia’s home and how you can help.

Merrimac Farm needs volunteers for the workday on May 19, 1:00-3:00 p. m. Tasks include weeding, pruning, and watering plants as well as tiding up the Stone House. Please RSVP to [email protected].

Serve Our Willing Warriors needsHouse Prep volunteers to prepare the Retreat homes for visiting veterans and their families. With two Retreat houses available, there’s plenty of work to do, and it’s a wonderful way to thank our veterans for their sacrifices. The volunteer orientations are scheduled for May 16, 7:00-8:00 p. m. and May 31, 10:00-11:30 a. m.

Leesylvania State Park needs volunteers for their monthly shoreline cleanups to pick up trash and driftwood. The next work day is May 18. Kids age 7+ with a parent are welcome! Please register by calling the visitor center at (703) 583-6904 so they have your name to waive the park entry fee.

You Don’t Have to Get out of Your Car for this One

House of Mercy is collecting new underwear and socks on Friday, May 31 from 10:00 a. m.-3:00 p. m.. All sizes and genders are needed. You can drive up to their location at 8170 Flannery Court, roll down your window and toss them in the donation bins to help those in need.

Working with Youth and Children

CASA needs volunteers to be advocates for abused or neglected kids. Please come to their next information session on May 21 from 6:00-7:00 p. m. in Manassas. Please email JoAnn to register and learn more.

Youth for Tomorrow needs volunteers to work with the kids either as mentors for both boys and girls or share your hobby with the kids on weekends. Meals Deliveries and Working with Seniors

Area Agency on Aging needs volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels mid-day in both the Manassas and Woodbridge communities. Meals are delivered Monday – Friday. They also need volunteer activity assistants at the Adult Day Healthcare Center for fun activities such as chess, checkers, dominos, and bingo and play musical instruments. The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is looking for volunteers age 55+ to deliver noon meals through the Meals on Wheels Program. Shifts are just two to three hours and available throughout the area. RSVP members receive a mileage reimbursement and additional insurance coverage at no cost to the volunteer. Volunteering for Novant UVA Health System

Novant UVA Health System needs volunteers in their surgical services at the Manassas and Haymarket hospitals. They also need volunteers at the Aubergine Thrift Store in Old Town Manassas.
