Volunteer Prince William maintains a list of volunteer opportunities throughout the Prince William area. Here are some of this week’s opportunities:

Dumfries Hot Spot Cleanup

Join the Town of Dumfries at their “Hot Spot” Cleanup at Ginn Memorial Park, 3876 Graham Park Road, Dumfries, on Aug. 12, 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.  The cleanup will focus on the park and surrounding areas.  Parking will be available at 3800 Graham Park Road.  Water and snacks will be provided; the whole family can participate!  What a terrific way to spend a summer morning, helping to make the community more beautiful!  Please visit bit.ly/3pL2B6Z to register, email rnickerson@dumfriesva.gov or call 703.221.3400, ext. 119 to learn more.

Food Donation Center/Client Intake Volunteers Needed

The staff at ACTS Hunger Prevention Center is in urgent need of volunteers to help in their Food Donation Center and assist with Client Intake.  Donation Center volunteers are needed Monday to Thursday, 9:30a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Client Intake volunteers are needed Monday 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Tuesday 1:00 to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday evening 55:00 to 7:00 p.m., and Thursday 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.  Bilingual skills in Spanish are helpful, but not required.  You’ll feel great as you help local clients get access to healthy food to feed their families!  For more information, please email SCouteau@actspwc.org.

Brain Injury Services Needs PALS

CASA Needs Volunteers

You can make a difference in the life of a child! Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) needs volunteers age 21+ who care about children growing up in a safe, permanent and loving home. The staff will hold their next Virtual Information Sessions on Aug. 9 and again on Aug. 23, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. each day.  Learn how you can help protect abused and neglected children in your community by becoming a volunteer advocate. Manassas Great Strides Walk

Mark your calendars!  Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be hosting the Manassas Great Strides Walk Sept. 9 at Harris Pavilion, and volunteers are needed 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Duties include setup, registration, handing out t-shirts, clean-up, and much more.  Volunteers 18+ welcome, volunteers under 18 can help but must volunteer with a parent/guardian.  You’ll feel great as you support this event which brings awareness of cystic fibrosis, a devastating disease which has robbed people of tomorrows, progressively limiting their ability to breathe and tragically shortening life.  Please visit on.cff.org/44w25ZO for more information, email scardenas@cff.org to learn more.

ESL Teachers

You can help immigrants master the English language!  English as a Second Language and Immigrant Ministries needs volunteer ESL Teachers age 18+ for their evening fall term Sept. 11 through Nov. 15 at Grace United Methodist, 9750 Wellington Road, Manassas.  Classes will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  Volunteers and students from all faiths and backgrounds welcome! Fellowship Square Needs Volunteers

Calling all techies!  Fellowship Square needs volunteers age 16+ to teach technology to low-income seniors at Lake Ridge Fellowship House12800 Harbor Drive, Woodbridge. Help make a difference in the lives of seniors by sharing your technology skills!  This program will be bi-weekly and aims to make technology accessible and help bridge the digital divide for our community’s seniors. Girls on the Run

It may be summer, but Girls on The Run is already preparing for fall!  Girls on the Run is more than a running program; it’s also a positive youth development program that teaches key life skills like confidence and teamwork through various activities.  They’re looking for volunteer Coaches and local sites to host teams in Prince William County.  For Coaches, no running experience is needed; just have a desire to support and encourage the next generation.  Coaches receive all the tools and support they need and find that they get as much out of coaching as they give.  Learn more and apply at gotrnova.org/Coach.  Interested in hosting a site this fall?  Please visit gotrnova.org/start-team to learn how you can get started.  You’ll feel awesome as you help young girls gain confidence in themselves and their abilities!  Please email info@gotrnova.org to learn more.

Early Head Start Classroom Support

Northern Virginia Family Service SERVE campus is looking for child-loving volunteers age 18+ to support their Early Head Start classrooms. Volunteers will help teachers set up play and learning activities, read to students, decorate the classroom, assist children with breakfast and lunch, and lend a hand with other tasks. Volunteers are needed Monday to Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. If you love working with children, this is the perfect opportunity for you!  For more information, please email ncannon@nvfs.org.

Food Rescue Heroes

The staff at Northern Virginia Food Rescue is looking ahead to the school year, and they need Food Rescue Heroes!  As the school year approaches, they anticipate having lots of rescues, so now is the time to download their app and complete your first rescue.  It’s super easy!  1) Visit your app store (Apple Store or Google Play) to download the app; 2) Create a profile; 3) Claim your first rescue!  School hasn’t started yet?  Have the kids join you in rescuing food to help food insecure families!  For more information, please call 703.822.5205 or email info@nova-fr.org.
