Volunteer Prince William maintains a list of volunteer opportunities in the area. Here are a few from this week’s list:

Boxes of Basics

Boxes of Basics is moving into a new, larger office space and they need volunteers with muscles to help pack up at their old location on West Street, move and unpack at their new office on Mike Garcia Drive in Manassas beginning Aug. 21.  Volunteers should be aware that moving can be physically demanding. But you’ll feel great knowing you’re helping this organization have a successful move so they can continue to provide quality clothing for vulnerable children!  Please sign up at bit.ly/3qxNXjV.  Please pay particular attention to the location of your shift; they’ll be at both addresses for the next few weeks.

VETS Program Needs Volunteer Drivers

Are you looking to fill your day when the kids return to school?  Volunteer Prince William’s VETS program needs Volunteer Drivers age 21+ to provide transportation for veterans and their spouse/widow to medical appointments, supermarkets, retail and houses of worship.  Schedules are flexible and most rides are done between 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  You’ll feel great as you provide transportation and friendship to veterans and spouses who otherwise struggle to have their daily and medical needs met!  Please email jhawkins@volunteerprincewilliam.org to learn how you can get involved.  This opportunity is made possible by a grant from Potomac Health Foundation.

American Cancer Society Needs Volunteer Drivers

American Cancer Society provides free rides to treatment for people with cancer and they are looking for Volunteer Drivers in Prince William County and surrounding areas.  What’s often standing between people with cancer and lifesaving treatment is a ride to get there.  The American Cancer Society’s Road To Recovery program fills this gap.  Learn more about how you can become a Volunteer Driver at cancer.org/drive or email jen.burdette@cancer.org.

Carried to Full Term

Carried to Full Term, which provides housing to pregnant women who are experiencing homelessness, has several volunteer opportunities available!  Help teach classes to residents, provide GED tutoring, be a mentor to a resident or provide transportation to residents needing rides to appointments.  You’ll feel awesome knowing you are helping to empower these women to become self-sufficient and confident as they prepare for the arrival of their new child!  Please email Laura at office@carriedtofullterm.org or call 571.261.2838 to learn how you can get involved.

Manassas Great Strides Walk

Mark your calendars!  Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be hosting the Manassas Great Strides Walk Sept. 9 at Harris Pavilion, and volunteers are needed 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Duties include setup, registration, handing out t-shirts, clean-up, and much more.  Volunteers 18+ welcome, volunteers under 18 can help but must volunteer with a parent/guardian.  You’ll feel great as you support this event which brings awareness of cystic fibrosis, a devastating disease which has robbed people of tomorrows, progressively limiting their ability to breathe and tragically shortening life.  Please visit on.cff.org/44w25ZO for more information, email scardenas@cff.org to learn more.

Foster Parents

Are you ready to make a difference in a child’s life?  For Children’s Sake needs caring and compassionate individuals willing to open their hearts and homes to children in need.  Becoming a Foster Parent is a rewarding journey that offers love, support, and stability to vulnerable children.  Be the hero a child needs – become a foster parent now!  Please email Kelley at kwillis@fcsva.org or Stephanie at sedwards@fcsva.org to learn how you can get involved.

Girls on the Run

Schools are opening, and Girls on The Run is getting ready!  Girls on the Run is more than a running program; it’s also a positive youth development program that teaches key life skills like confidence and teamwork through various activities.  They’re looking for volunteer Coaches and local sites to host teams in Prince William County.  For Coaches, no running experience is needed; just a desire to support and encourage the next generation.  Coaches receive all the tools and support they need and find that they get as much out of coaching as they give.  Learn more and apply at gotrnova.org/Coach.  Interested in hosting a site this fall?  Please visit gotrnova.org/start-team to learn how you can get started.  You’ll feel awesome as you help young girls gain confidence in themselves and their abilities!  Please email info@gotrnova.org to learn more.

If you’re passionate about fighting hunger, you can help SNAP recipients gain access to healthy food! Historic Manassas, Inc. needs SNAP Volunteers age 18+ who can help with the SNAP program during the Thursday and Saturday morning Manassas Farmer’s Markets, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Duties include helping people sign in, handing out tokens to spend at the market, counting tokens and explaining how the tokens work to recipients.  Training is provided.  You’ll feel wonderful knowing you’re helping food insecure families be able to access healthy food!  Please email kim@historicmanassasinc.org for more information.

Holy Family Fun Festival

Holy Family Catholic Church is holding their Holy Family Fun Festival Sept. 8 and 9 at 14160 Ferndale Road, Dale City.  They need LOTS and LOTS of volunteers to make this a fun, family-friendly event!  Duties include help set up, operate various cultural booths, sell food, raffle tickets and much, much more!  It looks like a wonderful way to celebrate the end of summer!  Please visit their Sign Up Genius page at bit.ly/3sigXN5 to sign up.  Please note, there are over 25 tabs listing the many ways volunteers can help.
