City of Manassas, VA . . . On October 10, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the City of Manassas Utilities Department will have an open house to celebrate Public Power week. The public is invited to enjoy a free pumpkin patch, a moon bounce, bucket truck rides, a light lunch and more. Participants will see how water and electric get from the source to the house. There will also be a visit from the ice cream truck.
The City of Manassas is proud to supply these services to the community. Did you know that 49 states have public power systems within their borders? Unlike private power providers, public utility companies measure their success by how much money stays within the community through lower utility rates. Public power systems were first created in 1880. The City of Manassas Utilities celebrated 100 years of service in 2014.
