On Sunday, September 14th, Prince William County Department of Fire & Rescue and Police Departments will hold a free Safety Car Seat Check at Patriot High School, 10504 Kettle Run Road in Nokesville from 12:00 noon till 3:00 p.m. The car seat check will be held in conjunction with the First Annual Prince William County Cup Charity Soccer game. The soccer team consists of public safety personnel from Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park.

Department of Fire & Rescue is one of the largest providers of this free service in the Commonwealth. ALL of Prince William County Department of Fire & Rescue stations have nationally certified car seat inspectors/educators that you can call or come by to assist you in checking your child safety seat. In 2013, we checked over 1,400 car seats at events and public safety stations across the region. Sadly, of the numbers of seats we checked, most of them were incorrectly installed. Last year, we found over 90% of the car seats checked by our members were incorrectly installed or used.

Sunday’s Car Seat Check is a part of this year’s aggressive campaign to provide this free monthly service in Prince William County. In addition to our ongoing efforts to check car seats at our stations, the Department of Fire & Rescue will join with community partners and businesses to provide educational car seat and checkup events at least once a month throughout 2014. These free events will be located across the county;
