On June 7th, a group of local child abuse prevention agencies and nonprofits is hosting a FREE film screening in Manassas. ACTS, CASA-CIS, the City of Manassas DSS and SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) of Northern Virginia will be screening the award-winning film “Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope” at the Candy Factory on Battle Street. After the film, there will be a panel discussion with local experts:

Kendra Kielbasa, Smart Beginnings Greater Prince William
Steven G. Liga, MSW, ACTS (Action in Community Through Service)
Carissa Shifflett, City of Manassas Park DSS

This is a topic getting a lot of coverage nationally when it comes to child welfare, and this event is an important opportunity for the local community to address it here in Greater Prince William. We’d love for someone on your staff to join us at the event and have a chance to hear about the challenges in the community and what we can do next to protect children. Our previous screenings in Alexandria, Fairfax and Loudoun were at maximum capacity. We imagine this one will be too — great mix of parents, professionals and other leaders working together to understand how trauma and resilience can be addressed at the local level.
