On Feb. 25, 2021, the Prince William County Chamber of Commerce hosted its 11th Annual Business Awards Ceremony (virtually) to honor the best of the local business community. Awards recognize excellence in business, innovative practices, and outstanding contributions to the community and businesses/ organizations that stand out among their peers.

The City of Manassas presented its “Business of the Year Award” to BAE Systems. Not many people know that Manassas is the headquarters for the space division of one of the world’s largest military defense contractors. Around the globe, BAE employs over 20,000 people and the company has multiple divisions operating in Virginia. BAE is British but operates U.S. subsidiaries that frequently operate at arm’s length from the parent company because of the sensitive nature of the work they do.
Here in Manassas, BAE makes products that touch every aspect of our daily lives.  The approximately 350 BAE employees here in Manassas report to work every day (or log in during COVID) to imagine, design and build the tech that keeps you connected, plugged in and safe in an increasingly technology dependent world.
The following Manassas-based businesses received top honors from the Chamber:

INNOVATIVE PARTNERSHIP OF THE YEAR:

ELEVATE is a unique workforce development solution demonstrating commitment to helping residents and businesses in Manassas, Manassas Park, and Prince William County.

The communities collectively committed a combined total of over $1.9 million in CARES Act funds to help residents get back to work and businesses in upskilling their workforce. More than 230 jobseekers have been enrolled in critical training programs; 15 have been placed in employment; $450k has been expended in training and wraparound services support. Over 40 businesses have participated in targeted job fairs; 18 employers and 613 employees have been served through the Incumbent Worker Training program.

INNOVATION IN HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM:

Located in the heart of Old Town Manassas, CJ Finz Raw Bar & Grille is a family-owned and -operated surf and turf restaurant offering coastal dining with a hometown feel. Boasting the only second-level deck in the CJ Finz offers an overlook to the Harris Pavilion and its seasonal festivals and activities, and is just a few steps away from the VRE and Manassas Museum.
Finz has become a go-to for diners across Northern Virginia both for its quality food and a fantastic atmosphere, and exposed newcomers to all that Historic Downtown has to offer. The restaurant is a frequent participant in local fundraisers, sponsor of City festivals and events and active promoter of other businesses downtown.

EXCELLENCE IN BUSINESS (11+ employees)

Novant Health UVA Health Prince William Medical Center is the City’s second largest employer and has played a significant role in the economic vitality of our City for over 50 years.
At a time when our community needed them to perform at its highest, Novant Health UVA Health System displayed amazing innovation and endurance. While risking personal safety, its employees delivered a remarkable health experience to all COVID19 patients, who so desperately required it.
In every possible way Novant Health UVA Health Systems lived up to the trust our community has placed in them, by not only taking care of those stricken by COVID but also their “normal” patient caseload.
