City of Manassas Neighborhood Manager to be Keynote Speaker at the Virginia Statewide Neighborhood Conference

On Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, Neighborhood Services Manager Kisha Wilson-Sogunro will deliver the keynote address at the Virginia Statewide Neighborhood Conference being held in Virginia Beach. She was selected as the keynote speaker forher work in creating innovative and creative partnerships in the City of Manassas to accomplish neighborhood revitalization projects.

Since being hired by the City in 2006, Sogunro has garnered 11 national, state and local awards for her Neighborhood Services projects, which include the Annual Neighborhood Conference, an annual 1 By Youth, the Big Day of Serving and the annual Week of Hope. These projects bring in more than 700 adult and youth volunteers annually for service in the community.

In 2011, Sogunro was invited to the White House to attend a weekly panel and networking session as part of the President’s Champions of Change Program. Ten champions, ranging from educators to entrepreneurs to community activists from around the U.S., were being recognized for their work in bettering their communities.

Sogunro is an AmeriCorps VISTA alumnae, a program she has brought to the City of Manassas, a 2013 graduate of Leadership Prince William, serves on the board of the Manassas Boys & Girls Club, and serves on the board for Habitat for Humanity.
