2021 Annual Report

At its Business Appreciation Breakfast on May 10, Manassas’s Department of Economic Development released its 2021 Annual Report detailing an exciting year of growth and opportunity in the City, filled with major project milestones, a record number of business opening celebrations, and lasting changes in Manassas.
The City’s diversified, strong economic base – particularly robust in healthcare, manufacturing, and professional technical services – showed incredible resilience and fueled significant economic growth in 2021. Highlights of this activity include Micron (the City’s largest employer) securing its Certificate of Occupancy for Phase 1 of their historic $3 billion expansion, Didlake breaking ground on a new 44,000 square foot headquarters in the City, and Chantilly Air opening its 60,000 square foot hangar and fixed-base operator (FBO) facility at the Manassas Regional Airport. Additionally, the City celebrated 22 new business openings and expansion ribbon cuttings – a Manassas record.
The 2021 Annual Report details new initiatives from the City including the free GED program, GRADUATE! and the Heart Beat Gift Card. It also describes the City’s pipeline of over 360 new housing units, capital improvement projects, demographic changes, and much more.
“Our investments in economic development paid dividends in 2021,” said Economic Development Director Patrick Small. “While our work is far from over, the growth of our business community this year is a testament to the diversification of our economy and the strong sense of place and community we have established.”

Manassas Workforce Survey: Help Improve Education and Workforce Development Systems

Manassas City Council’s most recent Strategic Action Plan identifies Educational Attainment as a top priority and Workforce Development a key area to focus on. In an effort to create an education system with robust workforce development initiatives that meet the needs of the business community, the City is soliciting employer feedback through the 2021 Workforce Development Survey.
All employers – big or small – located in the City of Manassas are asked to complete the survey at the link below. The survey takes less than two minutes to complete with five short multiple-choice questions. Your participation is critical in developing a pipeline of talent to meet the business community’s needs – both now and in the future.
As an incentive, respondents will be entered into a drawing for a $25 Heart Beat Gift Card. A total of 10 recipients will be randomly selected, but you must respond by June 15, 2022 to qualify.
