City of Manassas, VA . . . At the Monday, Nov. 19, 2012 City Council Meeting, the City of Manassas was presented with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance

City Manager John A. Budesky, Mayor Harry J. Parrish II and Director of Finance and Administration Pat Weiler

Officers Association of the U.S. and Canada (GFOA).  This was given for the City’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report or CAFR.  The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition given in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

This was the 28th consecutive year that the City of Manassas has earned this prestigious award.  Of the 90,000 state and local government entities eligible for the certificate, only five percent are awarded this achievement.

The City of Manassas also receives the distinguished GFOA Budget Presentation Award for its Annual Operating Budget.  Earlier in the year, Moody’s, a bond credit rating service, removed the negative outlook on the City’s Aa1 bond rating.  Moody’s expects that the City’s currently solid financial position will remain stable going forward given the City’s prudent management and conservative budgeting practices.

“I am grateful to our staff who created award winning financial and budget reports and that our financial outlook is positive,” said City Manager John A. Budesky.  “Through their efforts and with the redesign of our website, which is coming in February, we can be even more transparent to our residents.”
