The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia conducts several discretionary grant cycles each year that help support broad-based needs and areas of focus throughout Northern Virginia.

As a reflection of their new mission statement to advance equity across Northern Virginia, parts of the application have been modified to ensure that it is more accessible to all nonprofits. You are encouraged sharing this information with any and all nonprofit colleagues who may be interested.

Nonprofits are invited to apply for funding in early 2023 through the following grant cycles:

  •  Community Investment Funds (CIF) – the signature grant cycle managed by the Community Foundation to respond to critical need in our region. Funds are invested in organizations serving the Northern Virginia community in the areas of child and youth development, disabilities, education, Latino engagement and achievement, mental health, aging, military personnel and their families, and safety net support
  • The Environment Fund – protects, restores and improves the natural environment of Northern Virginia, thereby enhancing the health and quality of life of its citizens and the economy of the region

The 2023 focus areas within each of these fields have been defined and are available here. Please note the following dates:

  • Jan. 4, 2023 – Online Application Opens
  • Feb. 3, 2023 – Applications Due

An informational webinar on Jan. 4, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon will review details for these 2023 grant cycles and highlight the focus areas and criteria for this year’s process. Register here.
