Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (VA-10) issued the following statement after the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) adjourned its five-hour meeting and released a synopsis of its final report on the deadly electrical arcing incident near the L’Enfant Metro Station on January 12, 2015:
“This report contains damning evidence against Metro. It confirms the lack of a safety culture at the second busiest transit system in the United States. It is completely unacceptable that safety problems have been identified for over thirty years without appropriate action from Metro or its board of directors. I trust that the new General Manager, Paul Wiedefeld, will swiftly make necessary personnel changes—from managers to track workers—to address these problems. To address these problems further, I also joined with Congressman John Delaney in introducing legislation to upgrade the necessary qualifications to serve on the board including management, transportation, and Board experience. I will continue to champion appropriate reforms at Metro until hardworking taxpayers have a transit system that is safe and reliable.”
