Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-VA) released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 931, the Firefighter Cancer Registry Act, legislation which she cosponsored, that will now go to the President for his signature:

“Due to the higher rate of cancer among firefighters, the firefighter community has long sought the establishment of a cancer registry for firefighters that would be overseen by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) so better research and prevention could help save lives.  I have been a cosponsor of this important bipartisan legislation in two Congresses, and am thankful that we finally got this legislation over the finish line.  This first of its kind cancer registry will allow researchers to study these cancers and the effects they have so we can create better techniques and equipment that can be used to save lives in the future and prevent the occurrence of many cancers in our first responders. This bipartisan legislation will now go to the President’s desk for his signature.”
