Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (VA-10) and former Congressman Frank Wolf (VA-10) released the following statement on the House passing unanimously H. Con. Res. 75, which expresses the sense of Congress that the atrocities perpetrated by the Islamic State against religious and ethnic minorities in Iraq and Syria, including Christians, Yezidis, Kurds, and other groups, include war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide:

“As the March 17 deadline rapidly approaches for the Obama Administration to declare that ISIS actions constitute genocide, Congress has sent a clear and unanimous message to the President by passing a resolution calling the unspeakable acts by ISIS what they are…genocide,” said Congresswoman Comstock.  “Militants with ISIS have systematically murdered and raped women and children because of their religious beliefs. PWL The European Parliament, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Iraqi and Kurdish governments, all have labeled ISIS’s actions as genocide.  It is time for America to do the same.  Like my predecessor Congressman Frank Wolf who has continued to fight for human rights at the 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative, I believe that we must shed light on these atrocities for all of the world to see.”

“I am glad to see that H. Con. Res. 75 passed the House last night 393-0,” said Congressman Frank Wolf. “I truly appreciate Barbara’s attention to this grave issue.”

After passage of H. Con. Res. 75, Congresswoman Comstock spoke on the House Floor about the genocide ISIS is perpetrating. Watch here youtube.com/watch?v=97aVhzTPpng&feature=youtu.be.
