Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-VA) released the following statement following the terrorist attacks in New York, New Jersey, and Minnesota:

“We commend our brave law enforcement and first responders for neutralizing both terrorist threats in Minnesota and New York/New Jersey.  Their dedicated work in protecting us all was on full display over the last few days as one off-duty police officer no doubt saved lives in Minnesota during a knife attack at a mall when he took action against the terrorist.  Today, police officers recognized the New York/New Jersey bomber on a street in northern New Jersey and heroically took the terrorist suspect into custody.  We pray for the two officers who were wounded during the arrest and hope for their full recovery.

“The terrorist threats we face here and abroad is the issue of our time.  We must redouble our efforts and increase support of our national security, defense, and cybersecurity resources.  We also must make sure that our law enforcement has the tools necessary to track, detect, and stop terrorist actions before they are able to commit an attack against the homeland. The 10th District has a unique collection of professionals who can bring their expertise to bear on responding to this threat.   As a former official within the Justice Department after the September 11th attacks, I have seen firsthand how our federal agencies work with their local counterparts to protect us all.  The investigations in both of these terrorist attacks are only at the outset, and we need to follow leads wherever they go.  What the public can do is if they see something that might not look right, say something to state, local, or federal authorities.”
