MahoganyBooks, in partnership with Union Baptist Church, presents a Conversation and Book Signing with Dr. Marc Lamont Hill. This timely event will occur just one month after the unfortunate events in Baton Rouge, LA, Falcon Heights, MN, and Dallas, TX reminds us of the dire need for a nationwide dialogue on race, class, power, and accountability. Baltimore and the surrounding communities are acutely aware of the necessity to engage in productive dialogue that heals the unresolved feelings lingering from the death of Freddy Gray while also charting a way forward with proactive solutions. This event with Dr. Hill will provide such a forum for discussion, reflection, and bold answers to relieve the tensions in our communities. “There is no better place, no better time to have this poignant conversation than in Baltimore, MD, right here and right now with Dr. Hill facilitating the narrative,” said Ramunda Lark Young, MahoganyBooks Co-Founder.

“MahoganyBooks is honored to bring Marc Lamont Hill to Baltimore, MD for a book signing and author talk. In light of the recent developments in the police involved deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, a renewed conversation is needed to confront the root issues that create mistrust between African American communities and police,” said Derrick Young, Co-Founder of MahoganyBooks. “Union Baptist Church has long been on the cutting edge of creative community dialogue and engagement. It hosted and launched Ta-Nehisi’s award winning book, “Between the World and Me.” Now it’s poised to launch Dr. Marc Lamont Hill’s new book at a critical point in time,” says Rev. Dr. Alvin C. Hathaway, Senior Pastor of Union Baptist Church. “The corner of Druid Hill and Dolphin was the fourth stop of the Freddie Gray fateful police van ride. This conversation will place that and other situations in a national discussion.”
