As temperatures drop during rush hour this evening and overnight, the Virginia Department of Transportation reminds Northern Virginia drivers to keep caution in mind through tomorrow morning’s commute.
What drivers should know
- Pavement temperatures will drop after 5 p.m., below freezing through the night and into Wednesday morning. Precipitation and icy conditions are possible through the a.m. rush hour.
- Much treatment has washed off roads throughout the day. PWL Crews remain on duty to continue to put down materials overnight and into tomorrow.
- Even where precipitation is mostly rain, assume wet surfaces may be slick.
- Plan accordingly to allow extra time for a slow and cautious trip.
VDOT’s Northern Virginia District includes Loudoun, Fairfax, Prince William and Arlington counties (Arlington maintains its own secondary roads).
