Woodbridge, VA – Keep Prince William Beautiful in Woodbridge, VA has received an overall grant of $20,000 from CSX in support of Operation Clean Sweep. The CSX grant will assist in KPWB’s mission to address the issues of litter prevention, recycling, water quality, beautification and education throughout Prince William County.
CSX provides the opportunity for non-profit and/or service organizations to apply for grants. These grants are awarded in order to assist these organizations in the running of educational sessions and hands-on community activities.
KPWB Operation Clean Sweep, sponsored by CSX, includes 20 large scale community clean-ups annually, in conjunction with litter prevention education. KPWB will use the grant funds to purchase supplies, equipment, promotional items and educational material as well as for staffing for the campaign. On the first clean-up of our campaign, 1.96 tons of litter/debris was collected and disposed of properly and we at KPWB look forward to many more tons of litter cleaned-up from within Prince William County.
The mission of our campaign at KPWB is to decrease the number of littered lots and land areas within Prince William County and return ownership back to the community for the reduction of litter. We aim to find regular groups to participate in Clean Sweeps on an annual basis. Overall, we strive to improve our natural and scenic environment through litter prevention, recycling, water quality, beautification, and environmental education.
