The Dale City “LIGHTNING” Track Club (DCTC) is starting its 11th year of youth track and field.  The organization kicks off the season after having a record-breaking indoor season.

The team competed in the 2021 AAU Indoor National Championship held March 12 to 14, 2021 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. The Virginia Beach Sports Complex is a brand-new state-of-the-art facility which hosted its first indoor track event in December 2020. Over 60 DCTC athletes competed and set personal records, medaled in various events, and earned All-American status.

However, there was a particular group of athletes that stood out. The Lightning 17/18 age group girls 4x200m relay team came in first place. They earned All-American status and breaking the AAU Indoor National Championship meet record with a time of 1:42.62.

Over 1,500 youth participants from across the country competed in the 2021 AAU Indoor National Championship. This was the first year the event was held in Virginia; having one of Virginia’s teams take home the Gold and enter into the record books was a huge highlight. When asked about the girls’ performance, Head Coach Monte Evans said, “with the hit that youth sports have taken due to the COVID-19 [pandemic], this is a huge testament to the amount of work these young ladies have put in. I have watched them continue train since last April after missing out on their high school and summer club track seasons, not knowing when they will be able to compete again. However, their hard work prepared them for this moment and I’m incredibly happy for them.”
