Dale City Track Club, Cross Country Team 2016 led by Coach Hudson “Rusty” Byrd and Coach Leah Byrd.

The Dale City “Lightning” Cross Country team of the Dale City Lightning Track Club gave a tremendous performance this past weekend at the 2016 USATF Virginia Association Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships at Pole Green Park in Mechanicville, VA.

Coach Rusty Byrd and Coach Leah Byrd said the team’s members trained hard this year and ran against top competition from around the state of Virginia. All of the athletes had top finishes, with many earning medals, setting new personal records (PR) and advancing to the USATF National Championships in Hoover, AL on December 9. All of the athletes did an outstanding job,” said Coach Rusty. “Great work, Distance Dawgs!”

  • Andrew: 1st U8 boys 2k – Qualified for Junior Olympics & set new PR
  • Ahmir: 4th 9-10 boys 3k – Qualified for Junior Olympics & set new PR
  • Luke: 10th 9-10 boys 3k – Qualified for Junior Olympics
  • Kaitlyn: 4th 9-10 girls 3k – Qualified for Junior Olympics & set new PR
  • Lidya: 6th 9-10 girls 3k – Qualified for Junior Olympics & set new PR
  • Aiyona: 9th 9-10 girls 3k – Qualified for Junior Olympics
  • Justin: 9th 11-12 boys 3k – Qualified for Junior Olympics
  • Michael: 15th 11-12 boys 3k – Qualified for Junior Olympics & set new PR
  • Lilly: 16th 13-14 girls 4k – Set new PR
  • Dean: 14th 13-14 boys 4k – Qualified for Junior Olympics & set new PR

The Dale City “Lightning” Track Club (DCTC) was established in 2010 as a track and field running club for boys and girls. DCTC is a 501(c) 3 organization with a mission to offer youth a positive environment that is fun, competitive and social, as well as informative about the sport of track and field.

DCTC coaches and staff seek to improve athletes’ leadership skills, enhance their athletic ability, combat juvenile delinquency, encourage greater participation in school sports programs and develop character in youth that will foster necessary life skills.
