Every summer, The Arc of Greater Prince William/INSIGHT, Inc. holds a dance for county residents with special needs. This event has been happening every year for the past 25 years. This year’s theme was “Shine Bright Like a Diamond.”
Dancing the Night Away
This is one of the most anticipated events of the year as tickets typically sell out. This year they had 240 teens and adults in attendance. Everyone danced to music from a DJ at the event.
The soiree was held at the VFW on Minnieville Road on June 8, 2019. Tickets were $35 with some tickets donated by parents.
“The event is something folks look forward to every year, it is a time to dress up, have a nice meal, and dance the night away!” said Joy Ocetnik, Recreation Director/Training Coordinator for The Arc of Greater Prince William/INSIGHT, Inc.
“We serve anyone in Prince William County, people who live at home, in group homes, or on their own (some parents and assistance attend too,)” Ocetnik said. “Socializing and meeting friends is so important, we encourage people every year to come out and have fun.”
Recreation with The Arc of Greater Prince William/INSIGHT, Inc.
The Arc of Greater Prince William/INSIGHT, Inc. supports the county’s residents with disabilities through a variety of programs. This dance is just one of the many events in the community they sponsor and is part of their recreation program, where they offer over 140 recreation events each year. They also host sporting events, date nights, craft instruction and other special events.
They have weekly bowling in Manassas and Woodbridge. Teen and adult bowlers with disabilities are paired without bowlers without disabilities. This gives bowlers of all abilities the chance for growth and success.
