On Wednesday, March 14, Delegate Danica Roem visited Stonewall Jackson High School for a student discussion panel. The Pride Club of SJHS organized the event and invited student leaders from different organizations to join the panel, including Model United Nations, Black Student Union, Key Club, Peer Diversity, Student Activities Leadership Council, Girls Learn International, and Muslim Student Association.

Delegate Roem started off the afternoon by sharing stories of her experience as a journalist for the Prince William Times covering events at Stonewall Jackson High School. She proudly displayed an SJHS shirt that she was given by a coach many years ago and has kept in her sentimental possessions.

The student leaders on the panel asked Delegate Roem very thoughtful questions about topics that were important to them. The panel discussed Route 28, government transparency, the importance of research, DACA, equity in education, politically tough decisions, bizarre General Assembly traditions, student frustrations, mental health, school safety, and more. Students were fully engaged in the discussion and thrilled to have the opportunity to speak directly to a Virginia lawmaker.

The discussion panel was followed by a light reception, at which attendees had the opportunity to meet Danica Roem. Stonewall Jackson students, staff, and community members were joined in attendance by students from other PWCS schools, including Kate Arnold, the Student Representative of the PWCS School Board. This event was an excellent display of civic engagement and student leadership.
