October 21, 2013, Prince William, VA–The Prince William County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (PWCAC-DST), is hosting its fourth Annual Red Carpet Showcase featuring rising artists, authors and musicians in the Prince William community.  The Red Carpet Showcase is free and will be held on Saturday, December 7, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Cougar Elementary School, located at 9330 Brandon Street, Manassas Park, VA 20111.

This free event is provided for the community each year to encourage literacy and exposure to the arts. Importantly, it is also an opportunity to showcase local, emerging talent. This year, featured guests include two children’s book authors, an inspirational writer, a military fiction novelist and a poet. In addition, there will be a featured artist who is a comic book designer and cartoonist and several musicians have been invited.

The Arts and Letters Committee chairperson for PWCAC-DST Melissa Davis also announced that nationally known Christian fiction author Victoria Christopher Murray has accepted the chapter’s showcase invitation. Davis said, “We are excited that our own Soror and one of the country’s top African American contemporary authors, award-winner Victoria Christopher Murray, will join us.”s  Murray splits her time between Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles and she is a 2001 and 2013 NAACP Image Award nominee.

The community is encouraged to attend to meet Murray and support local talent. Guest will have an opportunity to listen to authors read an excerpt from his or her novel, discover the inspiration behind a poet’s words and talk with a cartoonist about his unique style.  Refreshments will be served and several of the artists will have their works available for purchase.
