Young engineer, future astronaut, and Benton Middle School eighth-grader Eleanor Sigrest got a standing ovation at last night’s School Board meeting after she described her research on cold gas rockets. That project earned her a $25,000 prize and first place in the prestigious 2015 Broadcom MASTERS science competition in the middle school division.

Sigrest was invited to the meeting by School Board members William Deutsch (Coles) and Justin Wilk (Potomac), who presented a plaque to her commemorating her singular honor. She was selected from among 30 finalists out of 2,300 students from 28 states for the Broadcom MASTERS title.
