Congratulations to Lieutenant Ryan Kirk of the Prince William County Department of Fire & Rescue! Lieutenant Kirk was recently recognized as the 2020 Northern Virginia Regional Award winner as Outstanding Pre-Hospital Educator by the Northern Virginia EMS Council.
Lt. Kirk is an amazing and dedicated educator who strives to promote high-quality EMS education through exceptional programs. He works outside the box to deliver content in an unusual style of teaching as incorporating emotion into evidence-based presentations. He engages students in topic discussions using pictures and videos while applying active learning activities, simulations of real-life scenarios and humor as a means of messaging to his students.
Lt. Kirk is an exceptional educator and well-respected across the fire and rescue hierarchy. His students, colleagues and supervisors describe Ryan as an excellent lecturer. He’s described as genuine, humble and kind, helping students make the connection between the course material and real-life practice. In other words, “He gets it!” Chief Tim Keen of the Prince William County Fire & Rescue System said. “Watching Lieutenant Kirk interact with the students, it is obvious that he has a passion for EMS and to pass his knowledge on to others. He is very deserving to be recognized by the NOVA EMS Council and we are proud of him!”
Lt. Kirk is currently attending Eastern Kentucky University in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Emergency Medical Care. Upon completion, he plans to pursue his passion further by acquiring a master’s in EMS Education.
Thank you for your dedication and service to the Department and the community.
