Elected officials and award winners at the 2016 National Tourism Week Luncheon

Discover Prince William & Manassas, the convention and visitors bureau of Prince William County and Manassas, Virginia, held its annual National Tourism Week Luncheon & Industry Awards on May 6 at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas, Virginia. The annual industry award ceremony honors the contributions of individuals and organizations to the promotion and development of Prince William & Manassas as a tourism destination. The industry awards were sponsored by the Virginia Restaurant Lodging Travel Association.

Guests heard speeches from U.S. Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (10th Congressional District of Virginia), Prince William County Supervisor John Jenkins (Neabsco District), and Vice Mayor Jonathan Way (City of Manassas) prior to the delightful keynote address by Carylann Assante, the Executive Director for Student & Youth Travel Association (SYTA), who spoke about the importance of the student and youth travel market.

“Travel and Tourism supports one in nine jobs in America and this event is our chance to highlight the economic impact that this vital industry has on our local economy in Prince William County & Manassas,” said Ann Marie Maher, President/CEO of Discover Prince William & Manassas.  “We were delighted to honor the award recipients and nominees for their dedication to travel and tourism and are appreciative for the continued support of our many partners,” she added.

Our 2016 Award Recipients were: 

Tourism Champion Award – (Tie) Tin Cannon Brewing of Gainesville & KO Distilling of Historic Downtown Manassas

Tourism Leader Award – Charles Friend, General Manager at the Homewood Suites by Hilton Woodbridge

Stellar Service Award – Ashley Householder, Front Desk Manager at Comfort Inn Dumfries

National Travel and Tourism Week is an annual celebration during the first week in May which unites communities from across the country to commemorate the impact of travel and how it relates to American jobs, economic growth and personal well-being.
