Approximately 900 nonprofits throughout the Washington metropolitan area came together for Do More 24, the region’s largest online giving day, powered by United Way of the National Capital Area (United Way NCA) raising nearly $2.2 million in online donations during a 24-period, which began at 12:00 noon on May 17, 2018.

Do More 24 has raised more than $7 million in the last six years. This year, a record 893 nonprofits participated in Do More 24. During the 24-hour giving marathon, a total of 12,468 donations were made through the Do More 24 website, and the average donation amount was $111.31. The most dollars raised by a single nonprofit was $180,440.18.

“Seeing the phenomenal commitment of this community banding together to make this the most successful Do More 24 to date was truly inspiring,” said United Way NCA President and CEO Rosie Allen-Herring. “We saw a record number of participating organizations, donors and supporters throughout the Washington metropolitan area who stood with us to reclaim kindness to help those less fortunate. As the impact of budget cuts and tax law changes are not yet known, our region’s nonprofit community can rest assured that their neighbors stand behind them with generosity and willingness to support. What the community has done and the amount of money they have raised during Do More 24 is a testament to that commitment.”

Through the Do More 24 online giving portal, donors were able to give to their favorite nonprofits or find nonprofits addressing causes they cared about or are serving their county or city.
