The Manassas Symphony, under the baton of Music Director James Villani, performs Musical Morsels — a smorgasbord of small works to delight your musical palate. The concert’s featured soloist is MSO horn player Avery Pettigrew. Dr. Pettigrew is featured in James Beckel’s concerto for horn and orchestra titled The Glass Bead Game. The piece is based on the last full-length novel written by German Nobel Prize winning author, Herman Hesse.
Dr. L. Avery Pettigrew is a freelance musician engaged throughout the DC area, performing regularly with her chamber ensemble Potomac Winds, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and as the featured soloist with several community orchestras. She studied with Samantha La Pointe-Woolf at Tulane University in New Orleans, earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Performance in addition to a Bachelor of Science in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Dr. Pettigrew earned both her Doctorate of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees at the University of Maryland-College Park, where she held a performance-based graduate assistantship as a student of Gregory Miller and Phil Munds. Her summers have entailed engagements at various festivals including the National Orchestral Institute, Wintergreen Summer Music Festival, and the Colorado College Music Festival. In addition to operating large and successful private studio based in Chantilly, Dr. Pettigrew works as a horn instructor with several schools in Loudoun and Fairfax Counties in Virginia.
She has been playing with the MSO since 2012. About that experience she says, “The MSO reminded me that music should be fun to make as well as listen to. And the group, but mostly the horn section, has been the best set of cheerleaders while I went through my doctorate!”
All seats for the Manassas Symphony Orchestra concerts in Merchant Hall of the Hylton Performing Arts Center (HPAC) are reserved and everyone needs a ticket. Individual concert tickets are available at the Hylton Center Ticket Office. Tickets may also be purchased through Tickets.com by calling 888-945-2468, or by visiting HyltonCenter.org. Tickets are also available for sale at the Center for the Arts Box Office on George Mason University’s Fairfax Campus. Individual concert tickets are priced as follows:

- Senior Citizens 62+ $16
- Educators w/ID only at Ticket Office $16
- Children/Students, Free – must obtain ticket at the Ticket Office
College Students must show ID to obtain free concert ticket.
