The Town of Dumfries is pleased to announce it has received its second consecutive clean audit, with independent auditors issuing an unmodified opinion on the Town’s financial statements for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025. An unmodified opinion is the highest level of assurance auditors provide and indicates the Town’s financial statements are presented fairly in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
“This second consecutive clean audit confirms that Dumfries is maintaining strong financial practices and
effective internal controls,” said Town Manager Tangela Innis. “A clean audit is not achieved by chance, it reflects consistent discipline, attention to detail, and a culture of accountability. I am proud of our finance
team and staff for their continued commitment to transparency and responsible stewardship of public
resources.”
As part of the FY2025 audit, the auditors reported that they did not identify any material weaknesses in the
Town’s internal control over financial reporting. Additionally, the auditors noted that compliance testing
disclosed no instances of noncompliance required to be reported under Government Auditing Standards.
Mayor Derrick Wood emphasized the importance of sustained accountability and public trust.
“This second clean audit is a meaningful achievement for our community,” Mayor Wood said. “A second consecutive clean audit tells our residents one simple thing: their town is being managed responsibly. It means public dollars are being handled with care, accountability, and respect.”
The FY2025 audit also reflects continued financial stability. At the end of the fiscal year, the Town reported
an unassigned fund balance of $8,031,240, and the Town’s overall net position increased by $1,041,355
(8.46%) over the previous year.
A clean audit is a strong indicator of effective fiscal management and organizational accountability. It
provides residents, businesses, and partners with confidence that the Town’s financial information is
reliable and that internal controls are functioning as intended.
The Town of Dumfries remains committed to maintaining this standard of excellence through continued
oversight, sound financial planning, and transparent reporting.
