The Town of Dumfries has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its FY24 Budget from the Government Finance Officer Association (GFOA). This marks the fifth consecutive year that the Town has received this award.
“This recognition affirms that the Town places a high value not only in managing and budgeting the Town’s resources carefully but also taking great care in how we effectively present and communicate the Town’s budget to the Town Council and the general public,” said Town Manager Tangela Innis. “I thank the Town Council for their leadership and the residents for their input.”
“Receiving the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the fifth year in a row underscores our Town’s ongoing dedication to prudent fiscal management and transparency. This achievement is more than an accolade; it indicates our commitment as a council to the vision of a well-managed government. Our efforts in upholding the highest standards in budgeting demonstrate our resolve to ensure Dumfries’ financial well-being aligns with our strategic vision to foster a well-managed government,” said Mayor Derrick Wood.
The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award represents a significant achievement, reflecting the commitment of the governing body and staff to meet the highest principles of government budgeting. Dumfries satisfied nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communication device. Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the award.
