“Love to Swing!”- Swing Dance Night at the Candy Factory

April 27 @ 7:00 pm - 10:30 pm

$15 – $20
Center for the Arts, swing dance

The Silver Tones Swing Band is proud to join forces with the Center for the Arts to bring audiences and music lovers the chance to learn to swing dance. This dance is part of the three-day art festival, One Love: Celebration of Life with the Arts. The band will be joined by world-renowned swing dancer and teacher, eWa Burak, for a night of lively swing music and fun. The perfect venue for the dance is the Center for the Arts, located in the historic Hopkins Candy Factory building, which features a ballroom with a premium “floating” wood dance floor on its third level. eWa Burak will teach a 45-minute lesson starting at 7:15 p. m., followed by three sets of big band classics by the Silver Tones. A cash bar and refreshments will be available all night.

Advance tickets are $15 and can be purchased at center-for-the-arts.org. Tickets will be available at the door for $20.

About the Silver Tones Swing Band
The Silver Tones Swing Band is made up of professional musicians from the Northern Virginia area and is led by band leader and trumpeter Dave Shuma. Since the band’s inception in 2012, the Silver Tones have performed all over the DC Metropolitan Area, including at the Smithsonian’s Air and Space Museum, the Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo, the Harris Pavilion, the Hylton Performing Arts Center, and countless galas and celebrations. The band is proud to bring to the stage their Andrews Sisters vocal trio, who recreate the exciting music of the 1940s era and beyond. The band and vocalists welcome you to the dance floor, a step

back in time to an era of elegance and style. Come enjoy the great American music of 1940s and 1950s swing and let the music take you away.

About Dance Instructor eWa Burak
World-renowned eWa Burak came into swing dancing (Lindy Hop) in the fall of 1986, after successfully auditioning for the professional Swedish dance company the Rhythm Hot Shots (now Harlem Hot Shots). eWa had the privilege to study from some of the old-timers who developed the dance during its heyday in the 1930s and 1940s. Today, eWa lives with her family in Orlean, Virginia, and still loves to teach and pass on the dance locally as well as internationally.
