Rooftop Productions presents You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown on Fridays and Saturdays, May 5-20 at 8:00 p. m. at the Kellar Theater at the Center for the Arts, 9419 Battle St., Manassas. This delightful musical based on the comic strip “Peanuts” by Charles M. Schulz, touches the kid in all of us. The adventures of Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Schroeder, Patty and Snoopy feature the trials and tribulations of childhood through baseball, flying aces, music, rabbit chases, book reports, crushes, misunderstandings and, ultimately, the things that truly make us happy.
The outstanding cast includes Aaron Verchot-Ware as Charlie Brown who has had leading roles in several area theater companies and recently won a Watch Award as Rev. Hightower in Bat Boy, the Musical. Jay Tilley portrays everyone’s favorite dog, Snoopy. A veteran actor in the DC metro area, Jay appeared as Scrooge in Rooftop’s A Christmas Carol and also appeared as Big Daddy in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Rev. Shaw Moore in Footloose, and Edna in Hairspray. Laura Mills, who appears as Lucy, was Alice in Alice in Wonderland with Pied Piper Theatre. She has also performed in Bat Boy, Smoke on the Mountain, Little Shop of Horrors, and Kiss Me, Kate in which she won a Cappie Award. Patty is played by Debbie Franck who has appeared in Harvey, Loves, Labour’s Lost, The Carpenter House Caper and Murder on the Happy Trail. Ryan Walker who appears as Linus most recently performed as Ernst in Spring Awakening. He appeared in Rooftop’s production of Little Shop of Horror s as Seymour and had additional roles as Nick in Fame and Jesus in Godspell. The character of Schroeder is played by Nick MacFarlane. He appeared with PPT as Long John Silver in Treasure Island and FDR in Annie. Additional roles include Cogsworth in Beauty in the Beast and George Bailey in It’s a Wonderful Life. This amazing ensemble of actors brings a lively and fun production to the stage.
You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown is directed by Rooftop’s Artistic Director, Ted Ballard, choreographed by Kristine Worley, and musically directed by Daniel Holmes. The book, music and lyrics are by Clark Gesner. It was originally produced in New York by Arthur Whitelaw and Gene Persson and directed in New York by Joseph Hardy.
