Exercise at the Airport

City-Seal[2]City of Manassas, VA . . . What’s going on at the Manassas Regional Airport next week?  City of Manassas Fire & Rescue, Police, Airport and other City staff along with Prince William County Police and Fire & Rescue, the Sheriff’s Office, the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia State Police will be training at the Manassas Regional Airport.

Training begins this weekend, March 9 and 10, with training for emergency personnel on Emergency Operations at an airport and the many hazards associated with the airport grounds.  Monday, March 11, begins a week of Live Fire exercises with the Virginia Department of Fire Programs Aircraft Fire Simulator.  First responders will be able to train on the Aircraft Fire Simulator in preparation for the full-scale exercise.

The week will culminate in a full-scale exercise on Saturday, March 16 and involves activity on a plane resulting in a crash, fire and mass casualty injuries.  There will also be a criminal component to the incident, which will involve the City of ManassasPolice with support from other agencies and jurisdictions.  The exercise will test the Airport’s Emergency Plan.

This training is partially funded by an Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI), the Virginia Department of Fire Programs (VDFP), and theNational Capitol Region (NCR) Exercise and Training Oversight Panel (ETOP).  The entire initiative is to help train City of Manassas public safety, Airport and other City staff, as well as surrounding jurisdiction partners in the event of a real mass casualty, fire or police incident at the Manassas Regional Airport.
