City of Manassas, VA . . . At 9:45 p.m. on May 20, Fire and Rescue crews responded to a fire in the 9000 block of Sandalwood Drive. Crews from the City of Manassas, Prince William County and Manassas Park responded to the scene where a fire had started in a second story bedroom. The fire was controlled within 10 minutes after the arrival of firefighters, but crews remained on scene for four hours extinguishing hot spots, salvaging possessions and investigating the fire’s cause.

The three adults living in the home had evacuated prior to the fire crew’s arrival and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Three Firefighters, two from Lake Jackson Volunteer Fire Department and one from the City of Manassas Fire and Rescue, were transported to Prince William Hospital, treated and released.

The fire was determined to be accidental and started when the battery from a laptop left on a bed overheated, igniting the bedding material. Initial damage estimates are more than $40,000.
