Keep Prince William Beautiful (KPWB) and the Solid Waste Division will hold a Fix-It Fair on Oct. 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Connaughton Plaza, 1 County Complex Court, Woodbridge. This is a Prince William Recycles Day activity.
Fix-It events provide the opportunity for members of the community to bring salvageable items for repair and subsequent reuse. Repair work appointments and pre-registration are required. County residents can visit kpwb.org/events
to sign up for an appointment. Customers will consult with the repair person, drop off the item and then pick it up when it is ready. Social distancing and masks are required to maximize the safety of fixers, volunteers and attendees.
“We hope this free event is a great experience for our fixers and our repair clients, so we can plan another event and build on its success,” said KPWB Executive Director Aleta Daniels.
Fix-It Fairs provide a convenient way for people to make their repairable items useable again, which reduces waste and promotes reuse. Along with recycling, reduce and reuse practices help conserve landfill space and enhance environmental quality. Since the annual festival style Prince William Recycles Day, hosted by the Solid Waste Division, is not feasible this year, the Fix-It Fair activity is a great way to continue to encourage reuse and waste reduction.
Repair appointments are available at KPWB.org
for small furniture and appliance repair, bicycles, costume jewelry and other portable items. Repair customers should check the schedule for current availability and updates as additional fixers are identified.
