The Virginia Gazette and Agricultural Repository (1791-1793)
Prince William County’s first newspaper, the Virginia Gazette and Agricultural Repository, was published in Dumfries by Charles Fierer and Thomas U. Fosdick on Sept. 29, 1791.
One of the stories reported, by way of London, was news of the French Revolution and how the King, Queen, and the Dauphine of France left their palace and the capital, with little known of their whereabouts until they were spotted in Meaux.
The newspaper had news from France, the latest in agricultural technology, other colonies, and local news. The last known issue was on Dec. 19, 1793.
