Fun and Free Holiday Events at Marine Museum

The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation is pleased to announce the schedule of holiday events at the National Museum of the Marine Corps. Events this December include a holiday movie series at the Medal of Honor Theater, various musical groups performing throughout the holiday season, visits from Santa and a holiday photo submission contest with a special prize. Further details on the events are below:

Christmas Photo Submission Contest

Submissions open Dec. 1-16, voting open Dec. 19-23

The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation wants to see your best holiday themed photos at the National Museum of the Marine Corps. Whether it’s the beautiful snowy pathways of Semper Fidelis Memorial Park, a holiday themed ceremony in the Semper Fidelis Memorial Chapel or the perfect family photo in front of the numerous Christmas trees in the Museum, we want to see your best photo! Submit your photo to jackson@marineheritage.org between Dec. 1 and 16 to be eligible. Vote for your favorite photo on the MCHF Facebook page, Dec. 19-23. The winner will receive a special gift from the Museum gift shop.

Christmas Movie Series

The Polar Express- Dec. 3, A Muppets Christmas Carol: Dec. 10, Home Alone: Dec. 17, Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch: Dec. 24

Each Saturday in December features a different holiday-themed movie in the Museum’s Giant Screen theater, with tickets available online and at the door for $8/person. The Polar Express stars Tom Hanks, featuring a young boy who travels to the North Pole on the magical Polar Express to learn about the spirit of Christmas (December 3: 11:30AM); a Muppets Christmas Carol telling the Muppet version of the Christmas classic “A Christmas Carol (December 10: 11:30AM); Home Alone starring Macaulay Culkin as a young boy protecting his house from burglars when accidentally left home alone during Christmas (December 17: 2:00PM); and The Grinch (2018) starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the Grinch who plots to ruin Christmas (December 24: 2:00PM).

Visit with Santa

Dec 10 & Dec 12, 1:30p.m. – 3:30p.m.

Come celebrate the holidays and meet the jolliest elf in town when he visits the National Museum of the Marine Corps! Holiday-themed activities and crafts will be available while waiting to meet St. Nick. Photos with Santa are available both days from 1:30p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Guests must provide their own camera and all families must be in line by 3:15 p.m. to ensure a photo with Santa.

Cookies, Cocoa and Crafts

Dec. 10- 12:00-4:00 p.m.While you visit Santa, come enjoy a free cup of hot chocolate and cookies from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation while you build a holiday memory photo frame and other fun craft activities. Don’t forget to stop by the Medal of Honor Theater at 11:30 a.m. to see a classic holiday film, A Muppet Christmas Carol, on the Giant Screen. Movie tickets cost $8 and will be shown at 11:30 a.m.

Virtual Visit with Santa

Dec. 14, 4:00p.m.-5:00 p.m.If you can’t visit the Museum in person, enjoy a virtual visit with Santa Claus. Santa will read one of his favorite books and answer a few questions from the good boys and girls (he has checked his list twice!) The program will be hosted on Zoom and registration is required by emailing gloria.sarpong@usmcu.edu.
