Seven student-athletes and two contributors were recently inducted into Gar-Field High School’s Athletics and Activities Hall of Fame. The newest members were recognized at a varsity football game and attended a luncheon, where they received a shadow box with a Gar-Field High School chenille letter and an engraved name plate.
Established in 2016, Gar-Field High School Athletics and Activities Hall of Fame recognizes and honors those student-athletes, coaches, and/or contributors who excelled in their respective roles bringing honor, recognition, distinction, and excellence to the school.
A call for nominees was advertised last school year. Eligibility requirements include student-athletes who are 10 years post-graduation, coaches who have retired and have been separated from the school for at least one year, and contributors who served in administration, in sports medicine, sports media, as an official, as event personnel, as an activity sponsor or a participant. Nominees must have also exemplified the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct and moral character.
A selection committee reviewed the candidates who were judged on their significant and/or long-term contribution to interscholastic athletics and activities while at the school.
There are now 71 members of Gar-Field High School Athletics and Activities Hall of Fame. They are honored in the school with their name on a plaque and their biographical information and pictures from the hall of fame website scrolling on a new 80” digital flat panel screen in the gymnasium lobby.
Activities Director Michael Payne said, “Incorporating the hall of fame magnifies the potential overall impact that students, coaches and contributors can have on Gar-Field High School during their respective time.”
