Gainesville Basketball Association, a non-profit entity, has partnered with the United Sportsplex to finally create a true home court advantage. The two full courts with adjustable rims are located at 10103 Residency Road in Manassas; just 10 to 15 minutes from Haymarket and Gainesville and right off the 234 Bypass. The courts have our GBA colors and even have our Griffin logo at center court. Plans are also in the works to add a third court. In addition to our GBA youth basketball partnership, “The U” is also going to offer adult rec basketball leagues, camps and future clinics. As an example, GBA, Gainesville Elite AAU and “The U” recently signed up local college coach, Chuck Driesell, to lead innovative deep-dive shooting clinics offered for the first time in this area. The U also currently offers other sports services in soccer, baseball and adult cross-fit.

GBA will still be utilizing space through PWC Parks and Rec at our local schools, but now will have more flexibility for earlier practice times and ability to still hold practice and games on school snow days. Led by Bruce Bauer, this public/private partnership has been in the works for years. We thank Joe Slaiby and the private sector for making the necessary investment to get this off the ground.

As we all know, sports are no longer a seasonal activity. Our AAU partner organization, Gainesville Elite, will be using these courts in the spring and early summer for tournaments and practices. We are excited to commence this partnership with our annual Gainesville Elite Tournament this weekend. We will be hosting over 40 teams April 16-17 at The U and at Patriot High School.

Gainesville Basketball Association continues to grow each year with now supporting over 2,000 families. We thank our community, including our dedicated Gainesville Board, our volunteer coaches and families, The U and Parks and Rec to make this all happen.
