Grammy-Nominated Guitarist and Songwriter Richard Thompson to Perform at the Hylton

The Hylton Performing Arts Center announced today a newly added Hylton Center EXTRA! performance by acclaimed guitarist and songwriter Richard Thompson on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 7:00 p. m. in Merchant Hall. Tickets start at $30 and go on sale to subscribers and Friends of the Hylton Center on Monday, December 5, 2016 and to the general public on Friday, December 9, 2016.

Richard Thompson’s legendary career as a songwriter and performer has spanned nearly five decades. He made his recording debut in the 1960s as a co-founder of the groundbreaking British folk-rock band Fairport Convention. Thompson went on to release more than 40 albums that highlight his unique songwriting style and virtuosity as a guitarist. Some of his best-known records include Henry the Human Fly (1972), Across a Crowded Room (1985), Rumor and Sigh (1991), Mirror Blue (1994), and Electric (2013). His most recent release is titled Still (2015), an album of new music produced by Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy. As a prolific songwriter, Thompson’s compositions have been performed and recorded by stars such as Robert Plant, Elvis Costello, REM, Bonnie Raitt, Los Lobos, Tom Jones, David Byrne, and Robert Earl Keen, among others.

Named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the Top 20 Guitarists of All Time, Thompson has garnered numerous accolades including BBC’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006 and an OBE (Order of the British Empire) personally bestowed upon him by Queen Elizabeth II in 2011. The Americana Music Association also honored him with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting in 2012.

This performance will take place in Merchant Hall at the Hylton Performing Arts Center located at 10960 George Mason Circle, Manassas, Virginia.
