Known for its haunted history and unique places to shop and dine, the Town of Occoquan offers plenty of fun and spooky things to do this Halloween season!

VFW RockToberVets

VFW Post 7916, 204 Mill Street, is hosting the RockToberVets event on Oct. 20 from 5:00 to 10:00 p. m. Enjoy plenty of delicious food, a photobooth and listen to the music of The Fringe Benefits. Tickets are $25. There will be a cash bar and other raffles at an additional cost. The VFW is also hosting a Fall Family Festival beforehand with food and treats from 12:00 to 4:00 p. m.

Hauntingly Historic Occoquan Ghost Tours

If you want to learn about the rich history of the town and hear spooky stories of its local ghosts, Hauntingly Historic Occoquan Ghost Tours are happening throughout the month with special tour times during the Haunt the Town event. To learn more, visit their website.

Haunt the Town

On Oct. 27 from 11:00 a. m. to 8:30 p. m., Haunt the Town is happening in downtown Historic Occoquan. This event is free and open to the public.

This brand-new event features a costume parade, magic show, movie in the park, carved pumpkin contest and more.

Halloween Hunt Contest

During the day, from 11:00 a. m. to 4:00 p. m., visitors can pick up an entry form to win $150 gift certificate sponsored by the Occoquan Merchants Guild. Pick up an entry form at participating businesses. They will be flying orange and black balloons. To participate, visitors can browse the town’s unique boutiques, galleries, restaurants, cafes and shops to hunt for objects and collect signatures. Turn in the form when it’s completed for a chance to win. Contestants must be 18 or older to win.

Photo Ops

All businesses will be decorated with life-size spooky Halloween figures and fall decorations, perfect for photo ops as you explore the town. When you share on social media, be sure to use “#occoquan” in your posts and use that hashtag to explore what other people are doing in Historic Occoquan.

Town of Occoquan Carved Pumpkin Contest

The town’s first ever carved pumpkin contest invites you to submit family-friendly carved pumpkins. Bring your pre-carved pumpkins between 12:00 and 2:00 p. m. to River Mill Park. Winners will be announced at 4:30 p. m. in the categories of child, youth, adult and artist. Ribbons will be allocated for first, second, and third place. First prize will also win a $25 gift certificate to be spent at businesses located in the historic district!

Sand Dig

Patriot Scuba, 304 Mill Street, will have a sand pit where children can dig for treasures. The pit will be out from 11:00 a. m. to 5:00 p. .

Haunted Tours

Hauntingly Historic Occoquan Ghost Tours will host spooky tours from 11:00 a. m. to 5:00 p. m.

Costume Parade

At 4:00 p. m., costumed kids of all ages can join the costume parade. To participate, line up at the VDOT Parking lot, 121 Poplar Lane, and the Mayor of Occoquan will lead the parade through the town where it will end at River Mill Park. Judges will pick winning costumes for these categories: cutest, scariest, funniest, most original and family/group. The best in each category wins first prize ribbons and $25 gift certificates!

Magic Show and Outdoor Movie

From 5:30 to 6:30 p. m. at River Mill Park, enjoy a free live magic show from The Amazing Kevin. You’re welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets to view the show. Afterward, there will be a showing of The Goonies at 6:30 p. m.

Parking

Free on-street and public lot parking is available in-town. Off-site parking and shuttle bus service is also available, sponsored by Patriot Scuba and provided by Earnie Porta’s Occoquan Tourism Company. Off-site parking pickup will begin at 11:00 a. m. and run through 4:00 p. m. Final drop-offs from the town will be between 6:30 and 8:30 p. m. The shuttle is free, but donations are appreciated for the non-profit Patriots for Disabled Divers. If you stay the day, you can check your strollers, blankets and lawn chairs at Patriot Scuba, 305 Mill Street.

Haunted Hounds Howl-O-Ween

On Oct. 28 from 11:00 a. m. to 3:00 p. m., the first annual Haunted Hounds Howl-O-Ween will take place at River Mill Park and at participating businesses throughout Historic Occoquan. The event is hosted by Loyalty Pet Care and Ridge Lake Animal Hospital, with support from the Town of Occoquan and the Occoquan Merchants Guild.

There will be a canine costume contest and parade, canine trick & treating at after-party yappy hours at participating dog-friendly restaurants.

Ticket sales benefit the Prince William Humane Society in support of initiatives for the Prince William County Animal Shelter.

The cost of admission is a recommended donation to the Prince William Humane Society. Purchase your tickets in advance through Eventbrite.
