When Sandy Petrus needed additional help caring for her physically challenged husband of 52 years, Jim, she found the perfect home care company – Woodbridge-based Southern Made.
The couple had worked with another home care company for several years already, but realized they needed additional coverage in the evening. Sandy found herself overwhelmed trying to clean up dinner dishes and care for her home in addition to the intense care Jim needed.
“Southern Made was willing to do two hours in the evening for a price that we could afford,” Petrus said. “We’ve had all positive experiences–they are tremendous,” she said.
Virginia residents since 1971, Sandy said her husband Jim was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 1992, with gradually worsening severity. She has needed help caring for Jim since 2017.
“For me to even take a shower, I didn’t know what he was going to do,” she said. “I really needed help.”
Southern Made visits the Petrus home in Woodbridge every evening for two hours to assist in getting Jim ready for bed, as well as performing household chores like dishes, light housekeeping and folding laundry.
“It’s more of a service for me,” Petrus said. “It alleviates stress–they do all the things that I would have to do in the evening so we can sit and watch TV and relax and I don’t have to worry.”
