Clifford the Big Red Dog bounds onto the Hylton Performing Arts Center stage in a new musical for the whole family. On Saturday, April 30 at 2 :00 p.m. and 5:00 p. m. the popular children’s book characters come to life in “Clifford the Big Red Dog® – LIVE! A BIG Family Musical.” This enormous and playful red pooch has delighted youngsters for more than 50 years with his heartwarming storybooks and his award-winning animated series on PBS Kids. Clifford, Emily Elizabeth and all their friends from Birdwell Island join together for an afternoon of singing, dancing and lots of interactive fun, sharing a few big ideas for children about being kind and respectful toward others and believing in oneself.
First published in 1963, the children’s book series “Clifford the Big Red Dog” has more than 126 million books in print. Written by the beloved author Norman Bidwell, Clifford has inspired generations through his lessons of kindness, sharing and friendship. The success of the book series helped establish Scholastic Books as a premier publishing company, and Clifford remains Scholastic’s official mascot. In 1988, Scholastic Studios released an animated home video series based on the popular books. PBS Kids ran a 65-episode animated Clifford series from September 2000 to February 2003, with Clifford voiced by actor John Ritter and Emily Elizabeth voiced by accomplished voice actor Grey DeLisle. In addition Clifford’s stories have been adapted into many educational tools including video games, phonics programs, puzzles and lesson plans.
The 5:00 p. m. performance of Clifford LIVE! will be assisted by an ASL interpreter.
Tickets for “Clifford the Big Red Dog® – LIVE! A BIG Family Musical” are $50, $30 and $20 per person. Golden Circle tickets are $65 and include premiere seating in the first six rows and the opportunity to meet and take photos with Clifford and the cast following the performance. Ticket office hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a. m. to 6:00 p. m. and Thursday, 10:00 a. m. to 8:00 p. m. Free parking is available in the lot next to the Hylton Center.
