Weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close the northern portion of the I-395 High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes starting Saturday (Feb. 20) at 7 00 a. m. through Sunday evening at 7:00 p. m. (Feb. 21). The closures are needed for crews to inspect and assess roadway and sign conditions as part of preliminary work related to the future extension of the I-395 Express Lanes.
Beginning at 7:00 a. m. Saturday, the HOV lanes in the northern section of I-395 will be closed from the Washington D.C. line to Turkeycock Run, just north of Edsall Road (Route 648). The lanes will reopen by 7:00 p. m. on Sunday in the northbound direction. The 95 Express Lanes from Edsall Road to Garrisonville Road (Route 610) will remain open southbound on Saturday until 2:00 p. m. when the lanes are reversed and open northbound to the Express Lanes exit just north of Edsall Road. PWL The 395 HOV lanes will be back to the regular schedule before the Monday morning rush hour.
Next week, starting Monday night, Feb. 22, there will be similar I-395 HOV lane closures through Thursday night, Feb. 25. On those nights, the HOV lanes will close at 9:30 p. m. each night and open by 4:30 a. m. the following morning. For more project information, go to VirginiaDOT.org.
