I-66 Lane Closures and Traffic Changes, Week of April 7

What’s Happening

As weather conditions allow, crews will continue corridor-wide roadway maintenance and address issues as needed, with daily multi-lane closures during daytime and overnight hours on I-66 East and West. Additional activities include:

  • Constructing bridge foundations at I-495, Route 28, and Route 234 Business interchanges, and the Bull Run Drive overpass
  • Constructing retaining walls along I-66
  • Clearing trees and brush, grading, and drainage installation throughout the corridor
  • Preparing temporary roadway for upcoming traffic pattern shifts at Route 123 interchange
  • Grading and drainage installation at the future Gainesville/University Boulevard Park and Ride Lot and Manassas/Balls Ford Road Park and Ride Lot
  • Grading and excavating for the new E.C. Lawrence Park Access Road and temporary realignment of Braddock Road
  • Relocating underground and overhead utilities along I-66 and Route 28

Upcoming Lane Closures and Traffic Changes

ROUTE 29 / GAINESVILLE: No significant traffic impacts scheduled.
ROUTE 234 BUSINESS (SUDLEY ROAD) / MANASSAS: No significant traffic impacts scheduled.
ROUTE 28 (SULLY ROAD) / CENTREVILLE: I-66 East at Bull Run Drive
Tuesday, April 9, and Wednesday, April 10: 10:00 a. m. to 6:00 p. m.
The left lane will be closed for construction activities in the median.
I-66 West at Bull Run Drive
Tuesday, April 9, and Wednesday, April 10: 7:00 a. m. to 2:30 p. m.
The left lane will be closed for construction activities in the median.
ROUTE 286 (FAIRFAX COUNTY PARKWAY): I-66 West from Route 50 to Stringfellow Road
Tuesday, April 9, through Thursday, April 11: 9:00 p. m. to 5:00 a. m.
Friday, April 12, and Saturday, April 13: 9:00 p. m. to 9:00 a. m.
Three lanes will be closed to implement long-term lane shifts for construction. Drivers should expect occasional 20-minute stoppages and slowdowns along westbound I-66.
ROUTE 50 / FAIRFAX: I-66 West from Route 50 to Stringfellow Road
Tuesday, April 9, through Thursday, April 11: 9:00 p. m. to 5:00 a. m.
Friday, April 12, and Saturday, April 13: 9:00 p. m. to 9:00 a. m.
Three lanes will be closed to implement long-term lane shifts for construction. Drivers should expect occasional 20-minute stoppages and slowdowns along westbound I-66.
ROUTE 123 (CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD) / OAKTON – CITY OF FAIRFAX:
Ramp from Route 123 South to I-66 West
Sunday, April 7, and Monday, April 8: 12:00 Midnight to 4:00 a. m.
Temporary closure of the ramp. Traffic will be detoured farther south to I-66 East, stay to the right for Route 123 North, and then follow signs to I-66 West.
Route 123 North and South from White Granite Drive to Eaton Place
Monday, April 8, and Tuesday, April 9: 9:00 p. m. to 5:00 a. m.
The left lane will be closed to implement long-term lane shifts for construction. Drivers should expect occasional 20-minute stoppages.
ROUTE 243 (NUTLEY STREET) / VIENNA: I-66 East from Blake Lane to Gallows Road
Wednesday, April 10, and Thursday, April 11: 9:00 p. m. to 5:00 a. m.
Three lanes will be closed with periodic 20-minute stoppages between midnight and 4 a.m. to remove overhead gantry upright supports.
I-495 (CAPITAL BELTWAY): No significant traffic impacts scheduled.
